Taiwan Scholarships for Filipino Students

Taiwan recently approved several scholarship programs for Filipino students who wish to study in Taiwan.

According to the Press Release from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in the Philippines, Taiwan will provide various scholarship programs for qualified Filipino students. These scholarships have been renewed for this year and marks the strong relationship between Taiwan and the Philippines.

These scholarships are intended for Filipinos who wish to pursue degree studies in Taiwan (Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral Degrees) or for those who would like to learn Mandarin Chinese in the Republic of China (Taiwan).

Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO), Philippines

The programs will start on February 1, 2020. TECO will accept applications for the following three scholarships:

Ministry of Education (MOE) Scholarship

Grants a 4-year scholarship for undergraduate studies, a 2-year scholarship for Master’s, and a grant of up to 4 years for Doctoral Degree. The MOE will shoulder 40,000 NTD each semester for the corresponding tuition and miscellaneous expenses. The remaining costs will be shouldered by the scholarship recipient. An additional 15,000 NTD will be given to those undertaking university undergraduate studies, and 20,000 NTD for those pursuing their Master’s and Ph.D will be given as the scholar’s monthly stipend.

Huayu (Mandarin) Enrichment Scholarship

Allows applicants to choose to pursue either 2 months or 3 months of intensive Mandarin courses, subject to TECO’s approval. The grant provides a monthly stipend of 25,000 NTD to cover all the expenses (tuition, miscellaneous, etc.)

International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF)

The grant covers the full tuition fee, living expenses, economy class airfare tickets and textbook costs. Scholars pursuing Master’s will receive a monthly stipend of 15, 000 NTD and 17, 000 NTD for those pursuing Doctoral degrees.

TAIWAN MOE/ICDF Scholarship Requirements

  1. Completed Application Form (downloadable in the respective websites of the specific scholarship program)
  2. Authenticated copy of the Highest Credentials (Diploma and Transcript of Records) from University, CHED, DFA and TECO
  3. Colored Photocopy of Passport
  4. Authenticated “English as Medium of Instruction” Certificate from the school you graduated
  5. Any proof of application for the prospect University in Taiwan (i.e. email acknowledgement from the university)
  6. 2 Recommendation Letters from the University Officials, Professors or Supervisors
  7. Comprehensive Study Plan
  8. Essay following the stipulated Guide Questions: a. Objective/s in taking the Taiwan Scholarship b. Possible Impact of taking a Taiwan Scholarship into your future career path c. Possible contribution/s to the enhancement of the bilateral relations between Taiwan and the Philippines

HUAYU (MANDARIN) ENRICHMENT SCHOLARSHIP REQUIREMENTS

  1. Completed Application Form (downloadable in the respective websites of the specific scholarship program)
  2. Copy of the Highest Credentials (Diploma and Transcript of Records) from school you graduated
  3. Colored Photocopy of Passport
  4. Any proof of application for the prospect University in Taiwan (i.e. email acknowledgement from the university )
  5. Essay following the stipulated Guide Questions: a. Objective/s in taking the Huayu Enrichment Scholarship b. Possible Impact of taking a Huayu Enrichment Scholarship into your future career path c. Possible contribution/s to the enhancement of the bilateral relations between Taiwan and the Philippines.

IMPORTANT NOTES

  1. TECO will only accept applications with COMPLETE REQUIREMENTS.
  2. It is not necessary for the applicant to personally submit the application, submission through representative or couriers are allowed.
  3. Submit COMPLETE REQUIREMENTS to TECO in the Philippines.
